Description
This purple-black notebook contains a record of the queries, conversations, and discussions of Charles Lyell commencing July 1848 whilst based in London and Scotland, focusing on the political, religious, and geological ideas that started during his travel in America and before his second travels in Americal was published in 1849. It covers content on America- Wyoming, Massachusetts, Boston, as well as on Kinnordy, Ireland, and London. This notebook has detailed notes on the geology of America, the state of slavery, education, flora and fauna and animal emanation theory (in Egypt). Some of the key individuals Lyell talks to and about include: John Cambell (Governor of Wyoming), Joseph Dalton Hooker (Plant Biologist), and Harriet Martineau (Sociologist). This Notebook also has many original sketches by Lyell, including the geology of Kinnordy and the surrounding areas like Clune Hill, p.72-77 and p.107. This notebook is written in ink and pencil and has a single page index on page 135.
